Aircraft Disinsection for Flights to Fiji
Meets
Fiji requires inbound flights to be disinsected, and the US DOT list records it as accepting an aerosol applied while passengers are not on board, which is the pre-embarkation method, as an alternative to in-flight spraying. Nadi is a common stop on Pacific itineraries from the US West Coast and Hawaii, so the requirement is worth planning with the rest of the trip.
Why the requirement exists
Fiji’s own text aims at aircraft that have been in Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea or anywhere with malaria-carrying mosquitoes in the previous three days, while the US DOT list records the inbound requirement and the accepted alternatives. The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji handles arrivals, and non-commercial, unscheduled and diverted flights notify it at least sixty minutes before arrival.
How we handle it
We treat the empty aircraft before boarding with an EPA registered aerosol at the WHO dose and issue the certificate; Fiji specifies no certificate format, so our certificate and the bagged cans on board serve as proof alongside the General Declaration. Pacific itineraries are rarely non-stop from the mainland, so send us the full routing, including any Hawaii legs, and we will confirm where the treatment belongs.
Main international gateways: Nadi (NAN) and Nausori, Suva (SUV). Requirements change; confirm with the destination authority or your trip support provider before departure. Last verified 10 October 2026.

Two things to settle before you file.
Routing. Pre-embarkation covers the flight it is performed for and is done at the last port before Fiji. Non-stop from the US, that is your departure airport. With a stop en route, send us the full itinerary and we will confirm where the treatment belongs.
Timing. We can often accommodate short-notice requests, but a trip we hear about early is a trip we can plan around your boarding without compromise. Send the route as soon as it is likely.
What the arrival authority sees.
In Fiji, an aircraft that arrives treated, ventilated and boarded in the normal way, carrying the documents listed above for Fiji, with the treatment recorded on the crew’s General Declaration and the used cans retained on board. An aircraft that arrives in Fiji without a verified treatment is typically treated on arrival with passengers aboard, under supervision, sometimes at the operator’s expense.

Fiji disinsection questions, answered
Does Fiji require aircraft disinsection on flights from the US?
Yes. Fiji requires inbound flights to be disinsected, and the US DOT list records an aerosol applied while passengers are not on board, which is pre-embarkation, as an accepted alternative to in-flight spraying. Aircraft without prior treatment are sprayed on arrival.
Can passengers be on board when the aircraft is treated for Fiji?
Not for pre-embarkation. The aircraft bound for Fiji is treated empty, before boarding, at your US departure airport, then ventilated. Passengers never see the process.
What do we carry on arrival in Fiji?
For Fiji: the signed certificate we issue on completion, the stamped affidavit, the General Declaration completed by your crew from the wording we provide, the Fiji reference sheet, the product label and safety data sheet, and the used cans bagged and retained on board.
