Why the requirement exists
Italy already hosts an established population of the tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, and has recorded locally acquired dengue in recent summers. Its health authorities treat arriving aircraft from risk countries as a route for introducing Aedes aegypti and the viruses it carries.
