Why India requires aircraft disinsection
Dengue and chikungunya are endemic across much of the subcontinent, and the Aircraft (Public Health) Rules of 1954 have treated cabin disinsection as a standing measure for decades. APHO officers read the health portion of the General Declaration on every international arrival and can order on-arrival disinsection where the prior treatment is unsatisfactory.

What the arrival authority sees.
In India, an aircraft that arrives treated, ventilated and boarded in the normal way, carrying the documents listed above for India, with the treatment recorded on the crew’s General Declaration and the used cans retained on board. An aircraft that arrives in India without a verified treatment is typically treated on arrival with passengers aboard, under supervision, sometimes at the operator’s expense.
